“In principle, mystical experiences are no different than those promised and celebrated in many religions.  Mystical experiences are neither above nor below those heightened experiences described in religious language as being made whole, liberation, the peace of God, coming home, and redemption.  The difference lies only in how mysticism deals with these experiences.  Mysticism lifts such experiences out of the abstractness of religious doctrine and frees them for feeling, experience, and certainty.
