An Introduction to Ignatian Prayer: A Weekend Silent Retreat

March 9–11, 2018


Ever longed to have a vacation with God? Here’s your opportunity. Over the weekend you will be introduced to different types of Ignatian prayer. These will to be used in your dedicated times of prayer. Spiritual direction sessions will help you be attentive to God’s presence and inner movements, and the silence will provide a portable shelter to help you linger with God alone while you eat, sleep and relax.

DATE/TIME: Friday, March 9, 5:30 pm to Sunday, March 11, 2 pm.

LOCATION: Carmel Hill, Little Flower Monastery, 10789 N Deroche Rd, Deroche, B.C.

COST: $285 (Includes 6 meals)
Please bring your own snacks.

ACCOMMODATION: Private room with washroom.

  • Silence observed (After supper Friday until before lunch Sunday)
  • Four 30 minute group input sessions
  • Six 45-60 minute periods for assigned personal prayer
  • Three 15 minute one-on-one spiritual direction sessions
  • During free time, retreatants are encouraged to go for a walk or do something that does not engage their mind directly (eg, colouring, knitting, puzzles, etc). No reading, video games, texting, talking on phone etc.
  • Daily Mass offered by the monks (optional)


SoulStream partners, Christopher Chiu and Esther Hizsa, who are also Jesuit Apostolate Spirituality of Vancouver directors and accompany people praying the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Retreat in Daily Life.

Chris ChiuChristopher Chiu has a Masters of Arts in Theological Studies from Regent College, is the Director of Retreats and Spiritual Direction at City in Focus and the Program Coordinator of Jesuit Spirituality Apostolate of Vancouver. Chris attends Tenth Alliance Church in Vancouver and Richmond Eastern Catholic Church.

Esther HizsaEsther Hizsa has an M Div from Regent College, co-facilitates Living from the Heart (Lower Mainland course) and is on the Leadership Team of SoulStream. She posts weekly on her blog An Everyday Pilgrim and is the author of Stories of an Everyday Pilgrim. Esther attends St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church in Burnaby.
