What Is Mine to Do? Finding Clarity in a Busy World

So Much Good, So Little Time
Sometimes the world feels like it’s bursting with good things to do. There are so many causes to support, so many people to help, and so many ways to make a difference. But how do you decide where to put your time and energy? How do you know what’s truly yours to do?
Listening for the Right Call
Katherine Murray has a way of answering that question. In a recent SoulStream podcast, she shared how she balances a life of contemplation and action. Katherine isn’t just someone who loves quiet prayer and reflection. She’s also someone who jumps into action when she feels called. Not long ago, she joined the Peace Train, a journey across Canada, asking the government to invest in peace. It’s a big, bold way of making a difference, but for Katherine, that action didn’t come from trying to do everything. It came from listening and asking, “What is mine to do?”
“I often feel pulled toward many things,” Katherine said. “There’s so much good we could be doing. But I’ve learned to ask myself, ‘What is mine to do?’ That question helps me get clear.”
Big Moments and Small Acts Both Matter
That question has guided her, whether she’s standing at a train station advocating for peace, sitting quietly in prayer, or simply showing kindness to someone she meets. Because for Katherine, it’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing the right thing for her. And sometimes, that means letting go of the pressure to stay constantly informed about all the world’s problems. She sets healthy boundaries, balancing her need to stay aware with her need to protect her peace.
“I want to be aware of what’s happening,” she explained. “But I also know I need limits for my own mental and emotional health.”
Finding Peace in Everyday Moments
In a world that often celebrates the loudest voices and the biggest actions, Katherine’s story is a reminder that quiet, small acts can be just as powerful. Washing the dishes, listening to a friend, or taking a moment of silence may seem like little things, but they aren’t. They can be just as meaningful as a speech at the United Nations.
The Simple Question That Can Guide You
So, when the world pulls you in a hundred directions, maybe Katherine’s question can be your guide too: What is mine to do? Listen, and you might just hear the answer.
