How Love Comes (Mike)

The perfect day had been filled with words.
Beautiful, true, heart-felt words.
From the pastor to the waiter, each offered
kind words to the happy couple,
and all of them were good.
At the end, the groom’s father
stood up. He is a man of few words.
During the day, he’d smiled and offered his help.
As I remember it, he said,
“We love you, Al.”
And there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
It was all that needed to be said
about our girl,
who is now theirs, too.

This is how Love comes
in well-placed words.
We come all carefully constructed
and it simply undoes us.
